LMP2

The cost-capped prototype class with a spec engine; in today's WEC it appears only at Le Mans.

LMP2, Le Mans Prototype 2, is endurance racing's cost-capped prototype category: chassis from a short list of licensed constructors, one spec engine for everyone, and price caps on the car. It ran as a full WEC class from 2012 until the 2023 season, and since then it appears in the championship only at the 24 Hours of Le Mans as part of the race's wider entry.

In practice LMP2 became a one-chassis class: the Oreca 07 won the market so completely that entire grids ran it. The class remains the backbone of the European Le Mans Series and the traditional proving ground for drivers aiming at Hypercar seats.
