Balance of Performance (BoP)

The adjustment system (weight, power, energy) that keeps different car designs raceable against each other.

Balance of Performance is the mechanism that lets fundamentally different cars race each other on merit. The regulator adjusts each model's minimum weight, maximum power and available stint energy so that no design holds a structural advantage, with the stated goal of making driver and team execution the deciding factors.

In Hypercar, BoP is what allows LMH and LMDh platforms to share one class; in LMGT3 it aligns cars as different as a Porsche 911 and a Corvette. It is also endurance racing's forever argument: every adjustment table is read by fans and teams alike as a verdict on who was sandbagging, and the sanctioning bodies police real performance with torque sensors on every car.
