When does the 2027 WEC season start?

The 2027 WEC season starts with the Qatar 1812km at Lusail on 25-27 March 2027, after the official Prologue test at the same circuit on 21-22 March. It is the first of nine rounds, ending with the 8 Hours of Bahrain on 4-6 November. Qatar has opened the season twice before: Porsche won there in 2024 and Ferrari in 2025.

The 2027 calendar round by round

The FIA WEC published the 2027 calendar on 12 June 2026, during the Le Mans race week. It is the first nine-round season since 2017.

After Qatar, the season moves to Europe for four rounds. The 6 Hours of Imola runs on 9-11 April, the 6 Hours of Silverstone on 23-25 April and the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps on 13-15 May. The 24 Hours of Le Mans follows on 9-13 June.

The second half covers the Americas and Asia. The 6 Hours of São Paulo is on 9-11 July and the Lone Star Le Mans at the Circuit of the Americas on 10-12 September. The 6 Hours of Fuji is on 24-26 September, and Bahrain closes the season on 4-6 November.

The dates above are race weekends as listed by the FIA WEC. Session and race start times come later, with each event's official timetable.

What Qatar has produced so far

Lusail has hosted two WEC races, both as the season opener and both over 1812 km. In 2024, the No. 6 Porsche Penske Motorsport 963 of Kévin Estre, André Lotterer and Laurens Vanthoor won after 335 laps, 33.297 seconds ahead of the No. 12 JOTA Porsche.

The 2025 race was closer. The No. 50 Ferrari AF Corse 499P of Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina and Nicklas Nielsen covered 318 laps and beat the customer No. 83 AF Corse Ferrari by 2.348 seconds.

The 2026 opener never ran. The Qatar race was postponed to October and then cancelled, and the 2026 season instead began at Imola on 19 April.

Toyota has yet to win at Lusail. Its best finish there is fifth, achieved by the No. 7 in 2024 and the No. 8 in 2025. That record contrasts with its 2026 form: three wins from the first six races.

Silverstone returns

The new round is Silverstone, back after an eight-year absence. The British circuit hosted eight WEC races from 2012 to 2019. Audi won three of them (2012, 2013 and 2015), Toyota three (2014, 2017 and 2019), Porsche one (2016) and privateer Rebellion Racing one (2018).

Silverstone was the season opener six times, every year from 2013 to 2017 and again in 2019-20. In 2027 it is round three. The last Silverstone round, in September 2019, was a four-hour race won by the No. 7 Toyota TS050 Hybrid by 1.901 seconds from the sister No. 8. The 2027 race will run for six hours, according to the FIA WEC calendar.

The rest of 2026 comes first

Before the 2027 opener, the 2026 season still has two rounds. Barcelona hosts its first WEC race on 18 October and Monza closes the season on 8 November, both six-hour races added after the Qatar and Bahrain rounds were cancelled, per the FIA WEC announcement of 28 July 2026.

Monza returns after hosting three WEC races from 2021 to 2023, two won by Toyota and one by Alpine.

Bahrain returns as the 2027 finale with Toyota on a nine-race winning streak there, covering every Bahrain race from 2017 to 2025. Qatar, the opener, is the one Middle East venue where Toyota has yet to win.

Regulations

What is the WEC Prologue?

The Prologue is the FIA WEC's official pre-season test: two days in which every full-season entry runs on the same track, usually the venue of the opening round, in the week before the season starts. It is mandatory for the field, open to spectators at most editions, and it is the first time each year that new cars, new liveries and new driver line-ups run in public with the timing screens on.

Manufacturers

Which manufacturers will join WEC in 2027?

Three new manufacturers are confirmed to join the WEC Hypercar grid by 2027. Genesis debuts in 2026 with an LMDh built by IDEC Sport and Oreca. Ford debuts in 2027 with the Mustang GTP LMDh, run by Multimatic. McLaren debuts in 2027 with a platform decision yet to be announced as of mid-2025. Each manufacturer's arrival has been confirmed through FIA homologation filings and public OEM announcements, and the 2027 Hypercar grid is on track to be the deepest top class the WEC has ever fielded.

Why doesn't the WEC race at Silverstone anymore?

The WEC last raced at Silverstone in September 2019 and has not returned since. The 6 Hours of Silverstone hosted 8 WEC rounds between 2012 and 2019, making it the championship's longest-running British venue. The 2019 race produced one of the WEC's most controversial results when both Toyota TS050 Hybrids were stripped of their finishing positions in a post-race technical inspection, handing the win to a Rebellion Racing privateer that had finished a lap down. The fixture was dropped from the 2020 calendar and never reinstated.

Why does the WEC race at Bahrain?

The WEC has raced at the Bahrain International Circuit every year since 2012, with the round serving as the championship's season finale since 2017. Bahrain offers three things no other WEC venue offers consistently: a desert-climate calendar slot in October or November when European tracks are weather-marginal, a high-spec circuit with built-in night-running infrastructure, and a Middle East commercial market the championship's sponsors value. The Bahrain round has produced more Hypercar manufacturer titles than any other single venue.
